This Saturday, there will be a college football matchup between a MAC team and a Big Ten team as the Eastern Michigan Eagles travel to Camp Randall Stadium to take on the Wisconsin Badgers. Eastern Michigan enters this game with a 1-0 record after beating St. Francis (PA) at home by 20 points in its last game while Wisconsin enters this game with a 0-1 record after losing to Penn State at home by six points in its last game. This game will be taking place at 7:00 P.M. EST.
Eastern Michigan Looks To Remain UndefeatedThe Eastern Michigan Eagles enter this game in solid form after defeating the FCS St. Francis (PA) Red Flash at home by 20 points last week. In that game, Eastern Michigan's offense was productive as it scored 35 points while recording 410 total yards. However, the Eagles only scored seven points in the second half as it struggled to get much going offensively after halftime. Now, Eastern Michigan will be looking to remain undefeated with a road game up next. However, Wisconsin is significantly better than St. Francis (PA) so one can expect Eastern Michigan to score a lot less than 35 points on Saturday.
Leading the Eagles offensively is senior quarterback Ben Bryant who looked okay in the season opener. In that game, he completed 80% of his passes for 126 passing yards. However, he also had zero touchdowns as he was used more as a game manager.
Following the victory against St. Francis (PA), Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton discussed the importance of red zone execution.
"We got into some good situations where we were in 1st-and-goal and just one, two, or three yards to go, so we were able to pop touchdowns in."
Wisconsin Looks For Its First Win Of The SeasonThe Wisconsin Badgers enter this game in terrible form after losing to the Penn State Nittany Lions at home by six points last week. In that game, Wisconsin's offense was awful as it only scored ten points while committing three turnovers. On the bright side, Wisconsin's defense was amazing in that game as it only allowed 11 first downs. Now, the Badgers will be looking for their first victory of the season with another home game up next on Saturday. Luckily, Eastern Michigan's defense is significantly worse than Penn State's defense so Wisconsin's offense should be able to get back on track.
Leading the Badgers offensively is sophomore quarterback Graham Mertz who looked awful in the season opener as he completed 59.5% of his pass attempts for just 185 passing yards against Penn State. To make matters worse, he had zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Now, he will be looking for a much better performance on Saturday.
Following the loss to Penn State, Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst praised his team for battling until the very end of the game.
"The season did not start the way you’d want it to, as far as winning the game. And yet, to win you’ve got to give yourself a chance to be in that position. And I thought many did. But we gotta find a way to finish."
