WATERSON MICHELLE vs HILL ANGELA Prediction & Preview
The UFC’s unrelenting scheduled continues this Saturday night with a fight card that is certainly one for the hardcore fans.
Featuring little in the way of consequence or exciting match-ups on paper, UFC Fight Night 177 is perhaps the weakest card the promotion have put on this year.
As tends to be the case though, the weaker cards have a way with overdelivering so here’s hoping.
Michelle Waterson (17-8) vs. Angela Hill (12-8)
Michelle Waterson is probably the more technical fighter and the more well-rounded between the two, but her crippling lack of distance management and desire to engage is continually her downfall.
Angela Hill meanwhile has improved tenfold over the years and made real strives overall.
With her output and aggression, I think Hill will take the fight to Waterson and give ‘The Karate Hottie’ real problems although takedowns could be a concern.
Pick: Angela Hill
Ottman Azaitar (12-0) vs. Khama Worthy (16-6)
This is perhaps the most intriguing match-up on the card as it pits an aggressive head hunter against a decent counter puncher.
Azaitar has big power at lightweight and he’s more than willing to show it off early and frequently. That aggression can lead to a tail off later on so Worthy will no doubt look to play a safer game.
It’s a toss-up as Worthy has been stopped with strikes in the past but I think his recent trend of playing the spoiler could see him pick up the win.
‘The Deathstar’ has shown a solid skillset since joining the UFC and if he can get out of the first round, I think he’ll be able to take control.
Pick: Khama Worthy
Roxanne Modafferi (24-17) vs. Andrea Lee (11-4)
Lee no doubt has the athleticism and striking edge in this fight but Modafferi has remained a tough challenge to crack.
Modafferi’s grappling is no doubt her best strength and if she can use her functional striking to get into the clinch, I think ‘The Happy Warrior’ can use her trips to dictate the fight on the mat.
Pick: Roxanne Modafferi
Ed Herman (24-14, 1 NC) vs. Mike Rodriguez (11-4, 1 NC)
Herman is the more experienced man here and knows how to grind his way to victory – especially in the clinch.
Rodriguez also likes to engage in the clinch so this could be a slog of a fight but I think Rodriguez’s power and range will be the extra factors to decide this bout in between the pummelling for position on the cage.
Pick: Mike Rodriguez
Bobby Green (26-10-1) vs. Alan Patrick (15-2)
Patrick will more than likely look to ground Green but I think ‘King’ has the takedown defence to keep this fight primarily on the feet.
With Patrick throwing a low output on the feet, 1.88 strikes per minute to Green’s 5.22, I think Green will be able to box the Brazilian up.
Pick: Bobby Green
Billy Quarantillo (14-2) vs. Kyle Nelson (13-3)
Kyle Nelson is always good for a quick start and will no doubt look to hit Quarantillo hard and early.
Quarantillo though has a deep gas tank and matches that with durability.
Add in an exhausting scrambling ground game and I think as long as he can avoid an early onslaught, Quarantillo should get his hand raised at the end.
Pick: Billy Quarantillo
