Two .500 teams with much higher hopes clash on Sunday in the nation's capital when the New Orleans Saints come marching in to meet the Washington Football Team at Fed Ex Field. The game will start at 1:00 P.M EST and won't be a problem for either team since travel will be minimum. The weather will be mild, with temperatures in the seventies on a partly cloudy day
The Saints have had a bizarre season
Despite numerous obstacles, including a hurricane that forced them to move to another state and play a home game in yet another, they opened up smoking the Packers. They followed that with a pratfall against the Panthers, mustering only a touchdown in the loss. They then beat the Patriots handily 28-13. Then last week, it was the bad Saints returning in a loss to the Giants after blowing a late lead to the Giants in overtime.
To say the Saints are an enigma is accurate. The Saints have the eleventh best defense in the NFL and give up 17.3 points per game but have one of the league's worst offenses, scoring 23.5 points per game. They are averaging a paltry 144 passing yards per game to rank 31st in the NFL and 132.8 rushing yards (7th). Do they miss Drew Brees? Without a doubt, but they also miss star receiver Michael Thomas (ankle), who is out indefinitely. They also will not have left tackle Terron Armstead (elbow) who is out this week.
Coming off a win, can Washington continue the streak?
Last week, the Washington Football Team got a much-needed win, defeating The Falcons in an up and down game 34-30. Backup QB Taylor Heinicke had a great game going 23-33 passing with 290 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner to J.D. McKissic.
Washington's defense continued to be a disappointment surrendering 30 points to a Falcon team that is one of the worst offenses in the league, averaging a paltry 19.5 points per game
Expectations were high that Washington's defense would be among the league's best this season. To say that might have been a bit of an overstatement is an insult to "overstaters."
The Washington offense ranks 20th in the NFL, scoring 25 points a game, and the Washington defense is among the league's worst, surrendering 30.5 points per contest.
