UCONN vs PURDUE Prediction & Preview

Purdue is 1-0 following a 30-21 victory at home over the Oregon State Beavers in the opening game of the regular season. Purdue gained 401 yards of total offense while quarterback Jack Plummer threw for two touchdowns and running back Zander Horvath rushed for one touchdown. The Boilermakers defense gave up 363 yards of total offense to the Beavers. Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen is questionable for Saturday, while TJ Sheffield is probable.

Connecticut is 0-2 following a 38-28 loss to Holy Cross and an opening-game 45-0 loss to Fresno State. The university announced that head coach Randy Edsall would step down effective immediately this past Monday instead of retiring at the end of the season. In the loss to FCS Holy Cross, the UConn defense gave up 363 yards of total offense, while the Huskies offense turned the ball over four times. Ian Swenson and Eric Watts are questionable, while Cameron Ross is out indefinitely


Jack Plummer off to a strong start under center

Purdue quarterback Jack Plummer has thrown for 313 yards and two touchdowns completing 29 of 41 passes against the Oregon State Beavers. Plummer is leading an offense that gained 88 yards rushing and 313 yards passing. The leading rusher for Purdue is Zander Horvath with 81 yards and one touchdown while the leading receiver is David Belle with 134 yards. Payne Durham has 120 yards receiving and two touchdown receptions.




After one game of the regular season, Purdue is 68th in the country in total defense allowing an average of 21.0 points and 363.0 yards per game of total offense. The Boilermakers have given up 78.0 yards rushing and 285.0 yards receiving per game. The Purdue defense is led in tackling by linebacker Jalen Graham with 6, while Kieren Douglas and Cam Allen each have five. Graham is also the leader in quarterback sacks with 1.0 and Allen is the leader in interceptions with 1.


UConn in complete disarray

The UConn Huskies are 0-2 and will have a new head coach on the sidelines Saturday which has created turmoil. Defensive coordinator Lou Spanos will become the interim head coach for the rest of 2021. Offensively, the Huskies are averaging 123 yards passing and only 61.5 yards rushing, which is 115th in the nation. Quarterback Jack Zergiotis has passed for 235 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. The leading rusher is Kevin Mensah with 97 yards, while the leading receivers are Keeland Marion and Cameron Ross with 60 yards each. Marion has two touchdown receptions


Connecticut is 116th in the nation in total defense allowing an average of 41.5 points and 453.5 yards per game. The Huskies' defense allows an average of 194.0 yards rushing and 259.5 yards passing per game. The leading tackler for Connecticut is linebacker Omar Fortt with 16. Defensive lineman Kevon Jones is the leader in quarterback sacks with 1.5 and defensive back Jeremy Lucien is the leader in interceptions with one.
