This Saturday, there will be a college football matchup between an Independent team and a Sun Belt team as the Liberty Flames travel to Veterans Memorial Stadium to take on the Troy Trojans. Liberty enters this game with a 1-0 record after beating Campbell at home by 41 points in its last game while Troy enters this game with a 1-0 record after beating Southern at home by 52 points in its last game. This game will be taking place at 7:00 P.M. EST.

Liberty Looks For Another Offensive Outburst

The Liberty Flames enter this game on a serious high note after beating the FCS Campbell Fighting Camels at home by 41 points last week. In that game, Liberty's offense was amazing as it scored 48 points while committing zero turnovers. However, that quality offensive performance was somewhat expected since the Flames averaged 37.1 points per game which ranked 16th last season. Now, Liberty will be looking for another offensive outburst with its first road game of the season up next on Saturday.

Leading the Flames offensively is junior quarterback Malik Willis who looked great in the season opener as he completed 65.2% of his pass attempts for 217 passing yards and one passing touchdown. In addition, he had 55 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown as he excelled through the air and on the ground.

Following the victory against Campbell, Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze criticized his team for its lack of discipline.

"Twelve penalties. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a team that had 12 penalties. That’s on me, and I’ve got to get that cleaned up."

Troy's Defense Looks To Continue Playing Well

The Troy Trojans enter this game in solid form as they were able to defeat the Southern Jaguars at home by 52 points in their last game. In that game, Troy's defense was unstoppable as it only allowed three points while forcing the opposition into committing four turnovers. However, that quality defensive performance was extremely surprising since the Trojans allowed 25.4 points per game last season. Now, Troy's defense will be looking to continue playing well with a home game against a significantly better offense on Saturday.

Leading the Trojans offensively is junior quarterback Taylor Powell who looked pretty good last week as he recorded 234 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. However, he also threw one interception so he will need to take better care of the football.

Following the victory against Southern, Troy head coach Chip Lindsey praised his team for its quality performance in the first quarter.

"Obviously, it was great to get off to a good start. We scored on the first drive and then the defense goes out and gets a stop or two right in a row. Really pleased with how we started the game."
