The Texas Tech Red Raiders will look for their third straight win to open the new season when they host the Florida International Panthers on Saturday evening. FIU is 1-1 for the season so far.
Panthers lose in OT after sackSeason form
The Panthers just did not have enough to beat the Texas State Bobcats in their previous game as they fell to their first loss of the season, 23-17, in OT. They had won their first game of the season 48-10 against LIU.
Max Bortenschlager fumbled the ball in overtime after his sack in FIU's first possession. He has already thrown for 525 yards with four touchdowns this season. FIU have passed for an average of 267.5 yards per game, 39th in the country.
"Turning the ball over that often, getting the ball in the red zone and turning it over, not scoring, getting explosive plays and having them called back because of penalties -- those things are disastrous, and it doesn't matter who the opponent is," FIU coach Butch Davis said.
Texas Tech win another by a single possessionSeason form
The Red Raiders have made a stellar start to the season with two straight wins, including a season-opening 28-21 victory against Houston followed by a more comfortable 28-22 win against SFA, although the margin of victory is lesser.
"They have our attention," Texas Tech coach Matt Wells said. "They're a good team. They beat Miami two years ago. They're very athletic and very well-coached. "Our attention is probably heightened with the disappointment in the way we played on offense and special teams last week."
Tyler Shough has enjoyed a solid season so far, but that effectiveness will change with differing challenges. He has passed for 405 yards with two touchdowns so far.
