Check out our NFL Best Bets in this week’s Fab Five:
National Football league action on Sunday afternoon and the New York Jets will pay a visit to Nissan Stadium in Nashville Tennessee to rumble with the Tennessee Titans.
The Jets are off a 27-13 home loss to the Patriots, while the Titans are off a 34-17 loss to the Texans on the road.
Jets Are Playing For Next Year
The New York Jets began their season with a bang as they beat the Detroit Lions on the road by a score of 48-17, but since then it has been mostly downhill as they have gone 2-8 in their last ten games. The Jets are just p[laying for next year at this point. They enter this game off a 27-13 home loss to the Patriots and have now lost their last five games in a row, putting up a measly 11.2 ppg over that stretch. That won’t get it done in Pee-Wee football. The Jets have also averaged just 12.0 ppg in their last four games on the road. Sam Darnold has missed their last two games and is doubtful for this one.
That means that we could see Josh McCown getting the call in this one and he did throw for 276 yards and a TD against the Pats last week but also had a costly INT. McCown has thrown for 411 yards with a TD and three INTs in two games played this year. He does not strike fear into the opposing defenses. The Jets’ own defense has struggled of late as they have allowed 29.3 pg over their last six games and have now given up 25.5 ppg on the year, which is 19th in the league. They also rank 16th against the pass and 27th against the run. On offense, the Jets are 29th in passing, 22nd in rushing and 26th in scoring at 20.1 ppg.
Titans Get Drubbed By The Texans
The Tennessee Titans are one of a handful of teams that are either at 5-6 or 6-5 in the AFC and that squarely puts them in the playoff hunt. They will look to bounce back in this one after getting drubbed by the Houston Texans on Monday night by a score of 34-17. That game was on the road and they have now gone 2-5 away from home, compared to 3-1 here at home. They have beaten the likes of Houston, Philly and New England here at home and will now take on a Jets team that has lost their last five games in a row. The Titans cannot afford to lose this game.
Back to the loss to the Texans. The defense had been playing well for the Texans this year, but they allowed the Texans to put up 462 yards of total offense in the game, including a whopping 281 yards on the ground. they had no answer for Lamar Miller, who rushed for 162 yards and a TD against them. This defense will have a much easier time of it in this one as the Jets can’t score a lick at the moment. Marcus Mariota had a nice game against the Texans as he threw for 303 yards and two TDs with no INts and has now thrown for 1886 yards with nine TDs and six INTs on the year. Tennessee is 30th in passing, 19th in rushing and 29th in scoring at 17.7 ppg. On defense, they are 8th against the pass, 17th against the run and 6th in points allowed, giving up 20.3 ppg.
