Chicago Cubs vs. San Diego Padres
MLB Baseball: Tuesday, September 10th, 2019 10:10 PM EST TIME
The Chicago Cubs are ready to continue their southern California trip as they head into San Diego to take on the Padres. The Cubs recent losing streak has fans on the edge of their seat as the Arizona Diamondbacks are ready to take the last playoff spot. Can the Padres help out the D-Backs a bit with taking down the Cubs?
Ready To Win Their NL Spot
The Chicago Cubs are ready to unleash everything they have for the next two weeks as they prepare for an intense battle to keep there NL Wild Card playoff spot. For the Cubs, they enter this Tuesday game against the San Diego Padres with being a game ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks but it is a bit too close for comfort right now. As of Monday morning, the Cubs are currently riding a three-game losing streak against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Diamondbacks are inching their way closer to that spot, but the Cubs have a favorable series matchup against the Padres. However, they are not the best on the road as they enter this series with a horrible 29-42 road record. Will that trend continue in this series?
For the Cubs, they are sending out Jose Quintana who picked up a win Thursday in Milwaukee despite giving up four runs on five hits over five innings. The lefty has been on fire with not allowing the big runs as he has just allowed four homers total in his previous eight appearances. He fits perfectly in this game as the San Diego Padres have only hit a total of 202 home runs in the league which is 17th in the league.
Ready To Be The Spoiler
Even though the San Diego Padres might not be winning to get into the playoffs, they 100% can play spoiler for the rest of the season and have a great chance to start with the Cubs. (Even though they would probably love to see the Diamondbacks, not in the playoffs) For the Padres, they have turned a four-game losing streak into a winning win as they come into this series with winning the past two games against the Colorado Rockies. For the Padres, their shining moments of the season have been from their young pitchers who are really starting to earn their name on the mound. Can another young pitcher step up for the Padres on Tuesday night?
That young pitcher will be Ronald Bolanos who was pretty sharp in his MLB debut, allowing two runs on five hits in six innings. The Padres’ No. 15 prospect was a surprise late-season callup, but he’s clearly being given a chance to make his case for a spot in the crowded 2020 rotation mix.
