The New York Knicks travel to the AT&T Center for a road matchup with the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday evening. The Knicks (11-12) are coming off a tough 113-99 home loss at the hands of the Denver Nuggets. The Spurs (8-13) had a brutal first month of the season but have turned it around with four wins in five games. New York opens this matchup as a slight road favorite.

Knicks Fall to Injury-Riddled Nuggets

Julius Randle led New York with 24 points on 9 for 18 shooting in a 113-99 loss at home to the Denver Nuggets in their last game. The Knicks have lost three straight overall and fell to 5-8 at Madison Square Garden this season. Evan Fournier chipped in 15, R.J. Barrett scored 13, and Alec Burks and Derrick Rose each had 11 points in the losing effort.

New York shot a woeful 40.2% from the field while going 12 of 40 from beyond the arc. After a strong start to the season, they have lost four of their last five games and have struggled shooting the ball consistently. As a team, they rank 23rd in the NBA in field goal percentage (44.1).

Spurs Playing Fresh Brand of Basketball

The Spurs have come a long way from their dynasty days over the last decade. Their new young core of Derrick White, Dejounte Murray, and Jakob Poetl will experience growing pains playing in a stacked Western Conference. Although starting the season poorly, San Antonio has won four out of their last five games. They rank 10th in defensive rating and have been getting some key bench players back from injury.

Dejounte Murray has been on a tear for the Spurs in his fourth season. The former Washington Husky product is averaging 19.1 points, 8.2 assists, and 8.6 rebounds. Although shooting 46.8% from the field (ranked 5th), San Antonio has been woeful from the charity stripe this season. They are shooting freebies at an unacceptable 69.8% clip, good for last in the NBA.
