Thursday evening pucks and a pair of teams from the great state of New York will battle it out as the New York Rangers host the New York Islanders. This battle of Metro Division foes will take place at Madison Square Garden. This is game one of a home-and-home series. The Islanders are off a 4-3 home loss to the Hurricanes, while the Rangers are off a 4-2 loss at Vegas.

Win Streak Ends With Loss To Carolina

The New York Islanders were rolling right along with a six-game winning streak until the Hurricanes came to town and ended it. Carolina has been hot as well and they have now won their last five in a row after defeating the Islanders by a score of 4-3. The Isles will now look to get back on track against a Struggling Rangers squad. The Islanders are still 9-2 over their last 11 games and in 4th place in the Metro Division. They are just six points out of first. Scoring in the loss was Brock Nelson, who scored twice and now has five on the year and Devon Toews, which was his 2nd. The Islanders have gone 13-9 on the road and they have averaged 2.91 gpg and have allowed 2.59 gpg in those games.

Absorbing the loss was Thomas Greiss, who allowed four goals on 24 shot attempts to fall to 12-9 with a 2.69 GAA on the year. Robin Lehner will be back in the crease for this one and he has gone 11-9 with a 2.18 GAA and a .927 save percentage on the year, including 8-6 with a 2.29 GAA and a .928 save percentage on the road. In his career, he has gone 2-7 with a 3.86 GAA against the Rangers. The Islanders check in at 25th in the league in power play conversions at 15.7 ppg and 25th in penalty kill at 77.5%.

Skid Hits Four With Loss To The Knights

The New York Rangers are struggling again as they come in having lost their last four games in a row and they have been outscored 22-5 over that four-game stretch. That is pathetic and now they have to try and get back on track against an Islanders’ team that they have gone just 2-12 against in the last 14 meetings. New York enters this game off a 4-2 road loss to the Golden Knights and they have now scored a total of seven goals over their last five games. Mika Zibanejad (12th) and Jesper Fast (6th) both scored for the Rangers who are currently in 6th pace in the Metro Division and 15 points out first. The Rangers have gone 11-10 here at home for the year and they have averaged 2.90 gpg and have allowed 2.62 gpg in those games.

Absorbing the loss was Alexandar Georgiev, who allowed three goals on 30 shot attempts to fall to 5-7 with a 3.33 GAA on the year. Henrik Lundqvist will be back in the crease for this one and he has gone 12-18 with a 3.04 GAA and a .909 save percentage on the year, including 8-9 with a 2.63 GAA and a .917 save percentage here at home. In his career, he has gone 30-20-7 with a 2.38 GAA against the Islanders. The Rangers enter this contest ranked 16th in power play conversions at 19.3% and 27th in penalty kill at 75.7%.
