Sunday afternoon, MetLife Stadium will be the venue when the hosting New York Jets welcome the Philadelphia Eagles. The Jets will be coming off a win for only the 3rd time this season while the Eagles come limping in after a divisional loss to the other New York football team (Giants). The playoffs are not something the Jets have on their to-do list come January. For the Eagles, they still have a backloaded schedule filled with divisional games so playoffs are still a possibility for them.
Jalen Hurts has had an up and down season leading the Eagles in the 1st year post-Carson Wentz. There have been times where he has looked like a potential Russell Wilson type player and then there have been times, he has looked like an RG3 replication. His consistency goes a long way into the Eagles' success. Zach Wilson for the Jets has had a similar season but the times he has looked good have only come in flashes. He has not had a complete game yet where he made anyone think he is definitely the future of the organization. One of the two QBs will need to perform Sunday in order for their team to come out victorious.
What a difference a week makesJust two weeks ago, the Eagles' offense put up 40 points with 380 yards of total offense scoring in every quarter of the game in a win over the New Orleans Saint 40-29. They followed up that game with a 4-turnover outing against the Giants and struggled offensively in the 13-7 loss. After this game with the Jets, the Eagles have nothing but divisional games until the end of the season. They are currently 2nd in the NFC East and two games behind the Dallas Cowboys who they face in the final game of the season.
In the loss to the Giants last week, Jalen Hurts looked more like a rookie than a 2nd-year starter. He was held to 14-31 passing for 129 yards passing, 0 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. He did pick up 77 yards on 8 carries but most of that came late in the game when the defense was sitting back preventing the long pass. Hurts also may miss this game due to an ankle injury and reports have Gardner Minshew replacing him as the starter.
2 in a row?The Jets will have only their third opportunity this season to get back-to-back wins on Sunday afternoon. The last 2 times came on the road and ended in losses, this one is at home and against an Eagles team that is coming off their worst performance of the season.
Zach Wilson did nothing spectacular in the win last week over the Houston Texans. However, when he tries to do too much is typically when he gets himself and his team in trouble. Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson, and Austin Walter were the main features of a running attack that compiled 157 yds and allowed a solid defense to rest for stretches of the game. After trailing 14-11 at the half, the Jets' defense buckled up and kept the Texans off the scoreboard the rest of the game. Zach Wilson picked up a go-ahead rushing touchdown in the 3rd quarter and Matt Amendola kicked a 37 yarder to extend the lead to 21-14. The defense took care of the rest as the Texans turned it over on downs on just 4 plays and were not able to move the ball in the final 20 seconds when they did get the ball back.
