Habs Are Keeping Playoff Hopes Alive

The Montreal Canadiens are hanging in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Habs come in off a 3-1 home win over the Detroit Red Wings to stay tied with the Blue Jackets for the 8th spot in the East. The win was needed as the Habs had lost three of their previous four games. Despite being tied with the Blue Jackets, the Habs are in 9th pace as Columbus holds the tiebreaker. The Canadiens went up 2-0 in the 2nd period and never looked back. Scoring in the win was Max Domi, who scored twice and now has 24 on the year and Brett Kulak, which was his 4th of the year.
Grabbing the win against the Red Wings was Carey Price, who stopped 20 of the 21 shots that he faced to improve to 29-25 with a 2.59 GAA on the year, while out on the road he has gone 13-12 with a 2.61 GAA. In his career, he has gone 11-9 with a 2.64 GAA against the Islanders. Montreal has gone 17-18 on the road and they have averaged 2.89 gpg and have allowed 3.20 gpg in those games. Montreal enters this game ranked 31st in the league in power play conversions at 12.3% and 16th in penalty kill at 80.4%.

Greiss Blanks Jackets With 31 Saves

The New York Islanders have two solid goalies and that will serve them well in the postseason. They enter this game off a solid 2-0 home win over the Columbus Blue Jackets and getting the nod in that game was Thomas Greiss, who stopped all 31 shots that he faced to notch his 5th shutout of the year and the 13th of his career. He is now 20-13 with a 2.26 GAA on the year, including 9-4 with a 2.04 GAA on the road. In his career, he has gone 3-4 with a 2.24 GAA against the Canadiens. We may see Robin Lehner (Questionable w/concussion) and he has gone 20-16 with a 2.19 GAA on the year, including 10-6 with a 2.06 GAA here at home. in his career, he has gone 4-9 with a 2.89 GAA against the Habs.
The Islanders are 3-1 in their last four games overall and they are currently in 2nd place in the Metro Division, just two points behind the Caps. They are 4th in the Eastern Conference playoff standings but have just a six-point lead over the Canadiens and Blue Jackets, who are tied for 8th in the East. Scoring in the win over Columbus was Ryan Pulock, which was his 8th of the year and Anders Lee, which was his 24th. New York has gone 21-15 here at home for the year and they have averaged 2.92 gpg and have allowed 2.33 gpg in those games.
