The Louisville Cardinals will travel to Carter-Finley Stadium on Saturday evening to take on the NC State Wolfpack in an ACC matchup. The Cardinals are sitting at 4-3 (2-2) and are coming off a 28-14 home win over the Boston College Eagles. Junior quarterback Malik Cunningham struggled as he went 9-of-17 for 107 yards and a pair of interceptions. The Wolf Pack are 5-2 (2-1) and are coming off a 31-30 road win over the Miami Hurricane. Sophomore quarterback Devin Leary had a good game last time out as he went 24-of-42 for 310 yards with a pair of touchdowns.

These programs have not faced off against each other since 2019 and Louisville picked up the 34-20 road win there. Let’s take a closer look into the matchup to determine the best place to put our wagers.

Dual Threat Quarterback

The Louisville Cardinals have been doing extremely well this season behind junior quarterback Malik Cunningham this season. So far this season, he has a 75.6 QBR, which is 18th in NCAA Division-I Football. He completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 1,684 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions through the air and 79 rushes for 497 yards (6.3 yards per carry) and five touchdown runs. In his last game against the BC Eagles, Cunningham finished 9-of-17 for 107 yards with a pair of interceptions through the air and 16 rushes for 133 yards (8.3 yards per carry) with three rushing touchdowns. If he can continue to use his legs as a weapon, it will be a great chance for a win.

The Louisville Cardinals have been struggling on the defensive side of the football as they are giving up 27 points per game. In their previous game against the Boston College Eagles, they allowed 14 points on 266 total yards of offense (141 passing, 125 rushing). They did a great job of getting stops as they forced the Eagles to go 3-of-14 on third down and 2-of-3 on fourth down attempts. The Cardinals did a good job forcing turnovers as they forced three turnovers (one fumble recovery, two interceptions). The defense needs to step up if they want to win here.

Don’t Make Mistakes

The NC State Wolfpack have been moving the ball well with sophomore quarterback Devin Leary under center this year. His 72.8 QBR is 24th in the nation so far as he doesn’t make mistakes. He has a completion percentage of 65.6 with 1,844 yards while throwing 17 touchdowns and two interceptions. In his last game against the Miami Hurricanes, Leary finished going 24-of-42 for 310 yards with a pair of touchdowns.

The NC State Wolfpack have been a solid defensive team this season as they are giving up 16.7 points per game. In their previous game against the Miami Hurricanes, they allowed 31 points on 420 total yards of offense (325 passing, 95 rushing). The Hurricanes struggled to convert as they went 6-of-17 on third down attempts but converted their only fourth-down attempt. The Cardinals need to step up defensively as Miami finished giving up 9.8 passing yards per play. If they can figure out how to get stops here, it will really help their defense get going.
