The Miami (OH) Redhawks opened the regular season with a disappointing 49-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Redhawks defense was overwhelmed by Cincinnati allowing 542 yards of total offense to the Bearcats while the offense was only able to generate 278 yards of total offense. The score would have likely been even worse, if Miami (OH) had not forced Cincinnati into three turnovers. Miami (OH) does not have any players on its injury report.

Minnesota opened its regular season with a 45-31 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes, but the Golden Gophers played well despite losing by two touchdowns. However, Minnesota lost its biggest offensive weapon, running back Mohamed Ibrahim, who sustained a lower-leg injury in the loss to the Buckeyes and will miss the rest of the season following surgery. Jordan Howden and Mike Brown-Stephens are questionable for Minnesota.

Miami (OH) Passing Game Needs Help

The Miami (OH) offense generated just 278 yards against Cincinnati of which 109 were through the air and 169 on the ground. Quarterback AJ Mayer was disappointing in the opener completing only nine of 28 passes for 109 yards. Mayer was sacked twice in the loss. Keyon Mozee is the leading rusher for the RedHawks with 80 yards, while wide receiver Mac Hippenhammer has 64 yards receiving and an average of 21.3 yards per reception.

The Miami (OH) defense is 126 out of 130 teams after giving up 49 points in the opening game loss to Cincinnati. The RedHawks allowed 542 yards including 247 yards rushing and 295 yards passing to the Bearcats. The leading tacklers for Miami (OH) are Ja’don Rucker-Furlow and Cedric Boswell with 8 each. Defensive back Mike Brown and defensive lineman Lonnie Phelps each have one quarterback sack, while defensive back Sterling Weatherford has the only interception.

Minnesota loses Ibrahim for the Season

The Minnesota Golden Gophers offense took a huge hit after announcing on Monday that leading running back Mohamed Ibrahim will be lost for the remainder of the regular season with a lower leg injury. Without their top running back, the Golden Gophers will lean more on quarterback Tanner Morgan and the passing game that generated just 205 yards in the opening game loss to Ohio State. Morgan passed for one touchdown in the loss. Treyson Potts rushed for 34 yards in the loss to Ohio State but the Golden Gophers will miss Ibrahim, who rushed for 163 yards in the loss. The leading receiver for Minnesota is Daniel Jackson with 58 yards.

Minnesota's defense is not that much better in rankings than Miami (OH). The Golden Gophers are 123rd after allowing 45 points and 495 yards of total offense to Ohio State. Minnesota gave up 201 yards rushing and 294 yards passing. The leading tackler for Minnesota is linebacker Mariano Sori-Marin with 6 and defensive back Jordan Howden has four. Minnesota does not have a quarterback sack and the only interception thus far is by defensive back Terell Smith.
