The Oakland Athletics will go on the road as they take on the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Paul Blackburn will take the mound for the Athletics. Daniel Lynch will be the starting pitcher for the Royals.

 

Athletics Sitting Outside of Wild Card

The Athletics pitching staff has been pretty good this season. As a team, they are in the middle of the league in ERA, hits allowed, and batting average against. Oakland is top 10 in runs allowed, home runs allowed, walks allowed, and WHIP. They are second in the MLB in walks allowed. With Paul Blackburn on the mound, this will be a bullpen game, as Blackburn does not go far in games. The Athletics’ relievers rank top six in hits allowed, runs allowed, home runs allowed, walks allowed, and WHIP.

 

Oakland has been average on offense this season. They are in the middle of the league in runs, home runs, RBI’s, OBP, SLG, and OPS. Matt Olson leads the team in runs, hits, home runs, RBI’s, batting average, SLG, and OPS. He is top 10 in the AL in runs, home runs, RBI’s, SLG, and OPS. Olson is having a terrific season.

 

 

Oakland has fallen out of the wild card spot and have not been playing well lately. They will need to turn things around and get hot and hope either the Red Sox, Yankees, and Blue Jays fall apart in the final weeks of the season in order to get a wild card spot.

 

Royals Will Not Make Playoffs

Daniel Lynch went six innings and gave up seven hits, zero walks, four earned runs, and struck out four in a no decision in his last start against the Minnesota Twins. He has a record of 4-4 with a 5.37 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and a 47/25 K/BB ratio in 12 starts this season. Opposing batters are hitting .294 against Lynch this season.

 

The Royals pitching staff has been poor this season. As a team, they are bottom 10 in the league in ERA, hits allowed, runs allowed, walks allowed, WHIP, and batting average against.

Kansas City has been poor on offense this season. They are bottom 10 in the league in runs, home runs, RBI’s, SLG, and OPS.

The Royals will not be making the playoffs this season. They are bottom 10 in most pitching and offensive categories.
