The New York Mets face the Houston Astros to start a three-game series with both teams having remarkable seasons. The Mets have a 45-24 record and possess the best record in the National League while the Astros have a 41-25 record and are in first place in the American League West Division. For the upcoming game, the Mets will turn to Trevor Williams to start the game while the Astros will turn to Jose Urquidy as their starting pitcher who hopes to rebound after allowing 17 runs in his last four starts. First pitch is scheduled for 810pm EST.

Mets hope offense can help out WIlliams

The Mets are having a great season and are hoping this can be the team to snap the current five-year playoff drought. Trevor Williams isn't a top-of-the-rotation starter for the Mets but is putting together a strong season, allowing only 16 runs in 35.2 innings pitched while tossing 33 strikeouts. Moreover, with a .244 expected opponent Batting

While Williams has stepped up in the pitching staff, the lineup is one of the best in the MLB, scoring 5.03 runs per game including 26 runs in the last five games. Pete Alonso is slashing .280/.362/.548 with 19 home runs and 137 total bases while Francisco Lindor is slashing .243/.323/.421 with 11 home runs and 109 total bases but the entire batting order has stepped up. Jeff McNeil is slashing .326/.385/.460 with four home runs and 103 total bases while Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar have combined for 11 home runs and 196 total bases to add depth to the lineup making the Mets batting order a tough one to put away.

Astros hope Urquidy and lineup step up

The Astros are having a great season and look poised to win the division for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The hope is that Jose Urquidy can step up as he has struggled this season, allowing 36 runs in 61.1 innings pitched. In addition, with a .312 expected opponent Batting Average, a .593 expected opponent Slugging Percentage, and a 6.17 expected ERA, opponents are making hard contact and driving in runs at will off of Urquidy this season.

The Astros hope Urquidy can have a strong start but also hope the lineup can step up, scoring only 4.26 runs per game. Yordan Alvarez is slashing .311/.403/.623 with 18 home runs and 132 total bases while Jose Altuve is slashing .274/.345/.507 with 12 home runs and 102 total bases but the back half of the batting order has struggled. Only six batters have an OPS+ over 100 and opposing pitchers can limit the top-heavy lineup as a result.
