HOLM HOLLY vs ALDANA IRENE Prediction & Preview
Is this the worst UFC card in recent memory? It’s not for me to say but, yes.
Seriously, why haven’t the UFC merged this card with next weeks? UFC on ESPN 16 is a three-fight card at best and one of which is buried on the preliminary card in Carlos Condit vs. Court McGee.
Holly Holm (13-5) vs. Irene Aldana (12-5)
Despite Holm’s pedigree on the feet, I think Aldana can win this fight in a striking battle.
Aldana has shown slick combinations in the past, decent power through her accuracy and a willingness to be the aggressor and throw more output.
Unfortunately though, Holm knows how to grind out performances in the clinch and that is where Aldana has slipped up in the past.
Maybe being a five-round will allow Aldana to adjust as the fight progresses but I think Holm’s experience and clinch control will allow her to grind out a brutal 25 minutes of control.
Pick: Holly Holm
Yorgan de Castro (6-1) vs. Carlos Felipe (8-1)
Felipe to walk forward and de Castro to knock him out.
Honestly, how is this a co-main event?
Pick: Yorgan de Castro
Germaine de Randamie (9-4) vs. Julianna Pena (9-3)
This would be a more interesting five-round fight than the main event.
GDR vs. Pena pits a striker vs. wrestler and the quality that both have in their respective fields make this a fascinating clash.
De Randamie has given fighters like Amanda Nunes trouble on the feet but the Brazilian quickly gained a clear advantage when grounding the Dutch fighter.
Pena meanwhile is smart with her control on the mat but primarily earns her takedowns through trips and physicality and getting in close against de Randamie will be a big ask.
Due to that reason, I think de Randamie will be able to deter Pena on the feet and dictate the fight through her striking.
Pick: Germaine de Randamie
Dequan Townsend (21-11) vs. Dusko Todorovic (9-0)
Townsend seemingly likes to blitz and not much else while Todorovic is fairly well-rounded but strong in the clinch.
Unless Townsend can score early damage, and previous suggests he won’t, than Todorovic should dominate this bout.
Pick: Dusko Todorovic
