Dallas Stars vs Columbus Blue Jackets Prediction & Preview

The reeling Stars lost to the Blue Jackets in the last game, and they have lost four in a row and only have one win in their last 11 games.

The Blue Jackets have won two in a row after losing five in a row and they are in the middle of the pack in the Central Division. While the team has had issues on both sides of the ice this season in winning their last two games they have outscored their opponents 7-3.

The Stars are in the basement of the Central and while their D has been pretty solid on the season giving up an average of 2.53 goals they are only averaging 2.53 goals. They had been shut out twice in two games before scoring two goals in the loss to Columbus in the last game.

The Blue Jackets have won 14 of their last 17 games facing the Stars and have beaten them in eight of the last nine games in Dallas. 

Holding On

In their last game, the Blue Jackets beat the Stars 3-2 where they scored the first two goals and held on for the win after giving up two goals in the third period.


Boone JennerOliver Bjorkstrand, and Eric Robinson each scored in the win and Joonas Korpisalo (7-7-4 3.07 GAA) stopped 22 of 24 shots he faced. He has only given up more than two goals in one of his last five starts. Elvis Merzlikins (3-3-1 2.81 GAA) is off IR and may get the call in this game and he gave up four goals in his last start.

The Blue Jackets have won two of their three games facing the Stars this season. Jenner ranks second on the team in goals and third in points and has scored a goal in each of his last two games. Cam Atkinson leads the team with 10 goals and 19 points and has two goals and an assist over his last five games. On the season Columbus is 4-6-2 on the road.


Offensive Woes Continue

The Stars only scored two goals in their loss to Columbus in their last game and in their four-game skid they have only totaled four goals. In the last game they outshot the Blue Jackets 24-22 and Miro Heiskanen and Jason Robertson each scored in the losing effort. Anton Khudobin (4-7-1 2.60 GAA) took the loss in the last game giving up three goals on 22 shots and the Stars have lost his last three starts where he gave up nine goals. Jake Oettinger (2-1-3 2.31 GAA) may get the nod to go in this game and Dallas has lost his last four starts even though he did not give up more than three goals in any of them.


Joe Pavelski (10 goals 21 points) is the only player for Dallas that has more than four goals, had an assist in the last game, and in his last five games has a goal and three assists. The Stars have lost their last six home games and the team is tied for the second-fewest points in the NHL.
