The Brooklyn Nets travel to American Airlines Center for a road matchup with the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night. The Nets (16-7) are playing as well as expected this season, but are coming off a 111-107 home loss to the Chicago Bulls. The Mavericks (11-11) have lost four of their last five games and will try and get back on track at home. Brooklyn opens this matchup as a road favorite.
Nets Playing Excellent BallAlthough dropping Saturday’s game against Chicago, Brooklyn finds itself in first place in the Eastern Conference through 23 games. Although averaging a below-Nets standard 109.5 points per game, they’ve been shooting the ball at a 46.7% clip, good for 4th in the NBA. Shockingly, they rank 6th in defensive rating. The Nets have been among the worst defensive teams in the NBA over the last two years, so this is a promising development.

James Harden is averaging 21.0 points, 9.3 dimes, and 8 rebounds through the first month and a half of the season. He’s shooting the ball at a lower than usual 41% clip, but expect that to trend up as the season progresses. Joe Harris and Kyrie Irving will be out indefinitely.
Mavericks Fall Without LukaTim Hardaway Jr. scored 20 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter for the Mavericks but they fell short 111-107 to the Grizzlies in their last game. They were without Luka Doncic. The Mavericks dropped to 0-4 this season without their young sensation. They were also missing Kristaps Porzingis and lost their fourth consecutive game without their top two scorers going back to last season.
Dallas had little punch offensively until it was too late in a fourth consecutive home loss, shooting 34% in their second game since setting a franchise record at 68.7% in a 32-point victory at New Orleans. The Mavs are averaging 104.5 points per game, ranked 25th in the NBA. The numbers are misleading, as they have been without their main duo for most of the last two weeks. They will trend up as the season progresses.
