The tilt between Croatia and Denmark will be played at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Nizhny Novgorod on July 1st. The Blazers were impressive in the group phase after collecting maximum points, while the Danish Dynamite advanced to the Round of 16 without much trouble, but with plenty of luck, and it’s going to be interesting to see how they will cope with the role of the underdogs here.
Croatia vs. Denmark
Three-Way: 1: Croatia -125; X: +240 Draw; 2: Denmark +459
Spread -0.5: Croatia -119; Denmark +108
Total 2.5 goals: Over +160; Under -200
The Blazers were one of just three teams (Uruguay and Belgium) with maximum nine points in the group stage, and they had no trouble to beat any of the opponents, including Argentina. Croatiaconceded only one goal at the World Cup thus far and it was from the penalty spot, and although their midfield and attack are looking better than the defense, they proved that they know how to keep the net intact. This generation reminds of the one that won the third place at the World Cup in France 1998, while some think they can even go all the way this time around. Croatia’s chances to win the World Cup are now +1100, while the Blazers are +240 to reach the semi-finals.
The Danish Dynamite ended the group phase without a loss and made it through the Round of 16 with a win and two draws, which was enough to take the second place behind France. They didn’t spend much of energy in the latest tilt with the Blues, as both sides were satisfied with a stalemate, which was the only game without goals at the World Cup for now. Like the Croatians, Denmark also conceded only one goal from the penalty spot, and their defense looked well-organized, but the midfield could have plenty of problems when they face the superstar duo Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic. Denmark chances to win the World Cup are now +8000, while the Danish Dynamite is +900 to reach the semi-finals.
Croatia turned out to be one of the most serious contenders to make a surprise at this World Cup and 3-0 thrashing of Argentina is just one of the positive things they did, and even though Denmark will try to force extra time and maybe would be happy with the penalty shootout, I believe the Blazers are a better team and should win here.
