On Thursday, the NHL will have 12 games on its schedule for hockey fans to enjoy. Our game featuring Detroit and Buffalo is the most intriguing because it's going to be nationally televised on NBC Sports Network. It is the first game of a doubleheader on NBCSN, with face-off at 7pm.

Red Wings Worst in NHL

After missing the Eastern Conference Playoffs entirely in their last three seasons, the Detroit Red Wings are having another tough year. In fact, they have the worst record in the entire NHL and have six less wins (12) than the second-worst team (18). Entering Thursday’s game against Buffalo, they’re on a nine-game losing streak, their last win coming almost a full month ago on January 10th.

On both sides of the ice, the Detroit Red Wings rank dead-last in the NHL. On offense, their 2.04 GF/G mark is №31 overall, and on defense, their 3.81 GA/G mark is №31 overall. On the road, which they will be on Thursday, they’re also dead-last in both categories. Jimmy Howard is slated to be in goal on Thursday and he’s having one of the worst seasons I can remember. He has a just two wins in 24 games (2–20–2) and his last win came all the way back in October. That’s 17 consecutive games where he’s seen action that resulted in a loss. His 4.12 GAA and.884 SV% both rank dead-last among qualified goalies and are the worst marks in his career.

Sabes Have Fallen Apart Since Hot Start
The Buffalo Sabres started the season on a roll, posting a 9–2–1 record in their first 12 games. Since then, however, it’s gone all downhill. Buffalo is currently 23–23–7 and on the outside looking in at the postseason race. They rank №13 in the Eastern Conference and are 12 points back from the final playoff spot. That said, they do have a winning record at home (15–9–3).

Overall, the Sabres are in the bottom-third of the NHL in scoring offense and scoring defense. On offense, the Sabres rank №21 with a 2.83 GF/G mark, while they rank №22 on defense with a 3.13 GA/G mark. At home, however, they fare much better; Buffalo ranks №17 on offense at home (3.15 GF/G) and №16 (tied) on defense (2.93 GA/G). Carter Hutton is slated to be in goal on Thursday. Hutton had an awful outing the last time he took the ice, allowing five goals to Colorado in less than two periods. Overall, he’s having the worst season of his career, posting a 3.30 GAA and.891 SV%.
