Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox
Where and when:  Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts, Thursday, 7:10 pm EST
The Texas Rangers will look to continue their stellar play at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, as they will play game three of a four-game set versus the Boston Red Sox on Thursday at 7:10 pm EST.  After picking up a win in the opener, the Rangers were able to pick up a 9-5 win in game two behind an inside the park home run by Hunter Pence.  The homer was Pence’s fourteenth of the year while serving as his only hit of the night.
The Red Sox find themselves roughly eleven games behind second-place Tampa Bay Rays within the AL East division as they have dropped five of their last six games, overall.  They squandered an opportunity to make up some ground on the Rays in dropping three of four contests at home versus Tampa Bay in their prior series.  The pressure continues to mount for the Red Sox as they followed up a loss to the Rays in the finale by dropping two of their first two contests versus the Rangers.
The pitching for the Red Sox has suffered as well in allowing a total of thirty-four runs in their last six outings.  They will certainly be looking to pick up a much-needed win on Wednesday and Thursday to end an eight-game home stand.
The Rangers, on the other hand, find themselves winners of four of their last five games while also separating themselves from the third-place Oakland Athletics within the AL West division.  Their second-ranked offense has again made an appearance after some low-scoring outings recently as Texas has posted thirty-four runs in their last six. Elvis Andrus (.302) continues to be a threat at the mound in having three hits, two doubles, along with an RBI versus the Red Sox.  On the other hand, Asdrubel Cabrera (.261) was also on a tear at the plate in game two in going two for four with two RBI’s.
In all, with the pitching for the Rangers continuing to be shaky on the year, they certainly have a potent offense to rely on as Texas is batting .258 as a team, good for ninth in the league.

Price seeks third straight victory

David Price (4-2) will seek to end a three-game skid for the Red Sox in game three on Thursday.  He enters the matchup winning his last two starts while allowing only three earned runs in his last five games, overall.  Furthermore, Price has really improved on his earlier mistakes on the hill as his ERA stands at 2.70 in 2019 as the left-hander has posted quality starts in his last three games.Price did not fare well on the road versus the Rangers in May of last year, however, as he gave up seven earned in just 3 ⅔ innings of work in an 11-5 defeat; However, the left-hander picked up a win in 2017 at Globe Life Park in going six innings while allowing just six hits (alongside nine k’s) in an 11-4 victory.  On the other hand, Price pitched eight innings at Fenway Park versus the Rangers on July 5th, 2016, yet suffered the loss in allowing three earned runs along with a homer in a 7-2 defeat.
Unfortunately for Price, Elvis Andrus (.429), Cabrera (.369), along with Logan Forsythe (.316) has had much experience and success versus him in the past.  Pence along with Shin Soo-Choo have also been successful in numerous at bats versus the veteran, as well.

Sampson dominant on the mound in prior performances

Adrian Sampson (5-3) will also be looking to continue his outstanding play on the hill for the Rangers as he will seek his sixth straight victory on Thursday night.  Like Price, he has been very stingy on the mound in giving up just seven earned during his current streak while he has also pounded the strike zone with thirty k’s during this time.  The Rangers picked up their fifth straight win with Sampson on the mound on June 8th as the right-hander went the distance on the hill while allowing just one earned on four hits.  Finally, he ended with seven strikeouts as his ERA also dipped to 3.20 on the year.
And while Sampson has not had much experience facing the Boston Red Sox in his respective career, he faced off versus the Boston Red Sox in 2016 and the results were not great as he allowed four earned runs on eight hits along with two homers in just four innings of pitching in a 6-2 defeat.  Mookie Betts along with Xander Bogaerts are each  two for three against the right-hander while Jackie Bradley, Jr has also had contact versus Sampson, as well.
