The Astros are trying to survive and make it out of Fenway Park with a chance to continue the series. The Houston Astros will be sending lefty Framber Valdez as he did not factor into the decision in Game 1 of the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox as he went 2.2 innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.

The Boston Red Sox have struggled to pitch in the playoffs but their bats have come alive. They will be sending southpaw Chris Sale to the mound and he is coming off a no-decision against the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the ALCS as he went 2.2 innings and gave up a run on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

To the Moon

The Houston Astros have been hitting well as they are second in the playoffs with a .772 OPS thus far. They are doing well at plating runs as they are scoring 5..63 runs per game. The lineup is deep as their .270 batting average is good for third in the postseason. Second baseman Jose Altuve has been hitting pretty well in the playoffs as he has posted an .816 OPS with two homers and six RBI while also adding a stolen base. If Houston can hit a little better, they will be in a better spot.

Framber Valdez has been pitching well this season according to his Baseball Savant page as he is in the 82nd percentile in xSLG, 81st percentile in barrel percentage, 66th percentile in xERA, and 62nd percentile in xBA. His 90.8 MPH exit velocity is the highest for him in a full season. Valdez throws four different pitches (sinker, curveball, changeup, fastball) and his curveball has been his best pitch as it has a .125 batting average and a .196 slugging percentage. It will be interesting to see if he can pitch better than he did in Game 1.

Offense > Anything Else

The Boston Red Sox have been the best hitting team in the playoffs as they have a .947 OPS thus far. They have a lot of power as they have hit 21 home runs, more than double any other team that made the postseason. Boston has been working the count as they are only trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers as they have 30 walks thus far. Third baseman Rafael Devers has been hitting very well as he has a 1.092 OPS with four homers and 11 RBI. If the Red Sox can continue to hit the baseball as well as they have been, it will do wonders for the franchise.

Chris Sale has pitched decently well in his limited action according to his Baseball Savant page as he was in the 53rd percentile in fastball velocity, 60th percentile in fastball spin, 70th percentile in max exit velocity. His 3.5 barrel percentage is the lowest in his career. Sale also has a four-pitch arsenal (fastball, slider, changeup, sinker) and his sinker has been hit the most as it has a .667 batting average and slugging percentage. It will be interesting to see if his arm gets stronger with more innings under it since his Tommy John Surgery.
