The Atlanta Braves will host the Miami Marlins as the NL East foes conclude a four game series Wednesday evening from SunTrust Park. The Marlins will send 26-year old right-hander Jose Urena to the mound, and the Braves will counter with 27-year old right-hander Kevin Gausman. The Braves have dominated Miami this season, winning 10 of the 13 meetings.

Urena Falls to 3-12 After Loss to Mets

Jose Urena will get the call for the 24th time of the year, attempting to avoid his third straight loss. Urena didn’t have his best stuff last time out, conceding four runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings against the Mets, resulting in a 6-2 Marlins’ loss. The fourth-year right-hander has not been unable to find a rhythm this season, posting a 4.74 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP to go with a 3-12 record in 129 innings of work. Urena has struggled against the Braves this season, surrendering 12 runs with an 0-3 record in 16 innings, and he owns a 2-6 record with a 5.91 ERA in 53.1 career innings against the division rivals.
J.T. Realmuto is consistently driving in runs against the Braves pitching this season, collecting nine RBI’s in 10 meetings. The 27-year old catcher has been the Marlins primary offensive catalyst all season, registering a .294 average with 14 home runs and 54 RBI’s. Realmuto is stuck in a slump right now, hitting .167 with one RBI this month. The Marlins are only averaging 3.67 runs per game, ranking them down at 29th in the Majors. The Miami pitching staff is carrying a poor 4.80 team ERA, pegging them 26th in the Major Leagues.

Gausman Notches First Win in a Braves Uniform

Kevin Gausman will make his 24th start and third start as a member of the Braves in this one. Gausman put forth an outstanding performance in his previous start, limiting the Brewers to one run on six hits over eight innings, leading to his first win in a Braves uniform. The veteran right-hander is having a mediocre season, registering a 4.29 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP accompanied with a 6-9 record in 137 innings pitched on the season. Gausman made his lone career start against Miami earlier this season and he was solid, allowing two runs in 5.2 innings in a 2-0 defeat. Gausman has conceded four runs in 13 innings in his two starts since joining the Braves.
Freddie Freeman has feasted on the Marlins this season, hitting a sizzling .434 with seven home runs and 15 RBI’s. The 28-year old first baseman is having another terrific season, hitting .319 with 19 home runs and 74 RBI’s. Freeman features a .340 average with three RBI’s on the month. The Braves are scoring an average of 4.85 runs per game, ranking them sixth in the big leagues. The Atlanta pitching staff owns a solid 3.80 team ERA, positioning them eighth overall.
