Arkansas State is reeling and they look to turn things around but have a tall task hosting a red-hot Louisiana team.

Louisiana lost their season-opener facing a ranked Texas team but since that time have reeled off five straight wins. The team is the only one in the Sun Belt West division that has a winning record and after two straight close games they won their last one in a blowout.

Arkansas State is just the opposite of the Ragin Cajuns, as they won their season-opener but have lost their last five games. They have a good passing attack but their defense has been torched and they rank dead last in the nation giving up an average of 46.7 ppg.

Defense Kills It

Louisiana has a solid defense and it showed in their last game, as in their 41-13 win over Appalachian State they forced four turnovers and held the Mountaineers to only 211 yards.

It was an impressive win over a team that came into the game with a winning record and 1-0 in Sun Belt play. On the offensive side of the ball the Ragin Cajuns had 455 total yards and were legit on the ground with 256 rushing yards.

Louisiana has a pretty balanced offense that ranks tied for 47th in the nation in rushing yards per game and 78th in passing yards per game. Senior QB Levi Lewis (1,305 yards 8 TD 2 INT) leads the team and while not putting up big numbers he has passed for five TD and two INT over his last three games and has only been sacked once in each of the last five games. While Louisiana has a deep WR corps no player has more than 190 receiving yards. Three players have at least 283 rushing yards led by freshman Montrel lJohnson (335 yards 5 TD), who is averaging 5.7 yards per carry and rushed for over 100 yards in the last game.

Over 50, Again

The defense for Arkansas State has given up at least 52 points in four of the last five games including the last two. In their last game they were on the road and lost to a ranked Coastal Carolina team 52-20 where they were down 24-0 at the half and gave up an astounding 685 total yards. They only had 255 total yards and all but 18 of them were in the air.

Arkansas State is all about the passing game ranking sixth in the nation in passing yards per game but 128th in rushing yards per game. The team has used two QBs in James Blackmon and Layne Hatcher and while Hatcher got most of the action in the last game and has two TD and one INT he only completed 44.8% of his passes. Corey Rucker and Te'Vailance Hunt each have at l;east 456 receiving yards and Jeff Foreman has 360 receiving yards. Lincoln Pare leads the team with only 146 rushing yards and he is averaging nearly five yards per carry. This game is not a good matchup for the Red Wolves, as the strength of the Louisiana defense in their pass D that ranks a legit 24th in the nation.
