Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
MLB: Saturday July 6, 2019 at 10:10 PM EST
The Rockies have recently lost three in a row where in two of those losses their pitching was hammered. While still over .500 they have not been playing well the last few weeks and are over 13 games out of first place in the NL West. While not even the All Star break it looks as if the NL Wild Card will be Colorado’s only chance to make the post-season. While they are one of the highest scoring teams in MLB, they rank 2nd last in the Majors in runs scored.
The Diamondbacks have also lost three in a row recently and with that skid they fell under .500 on the season. They are in the same boat as Colorado likely needing to bad a Wild Card slop to make the playoffs. They have been decent at the dish and on the mound on the season, but that has not translated to a winning record.
The Rockies come into this series winning their last six games against the D-Backs in Arizona.
Keep it up Gray
Jon Gray (9-5 3.84 ERA) gets the call in this game, leads the Rockies in wins and ERA among starters, and has been pitching well as of late. The Rockies have won his last three starts where he has only given up three earned runs, five overall, in 18 2/3 innings. In Gray’s last start he gave up three runs in six 2/3 innings in a 5-3 win over the L.A. Dodgers. Colorado has won both of his starts against the D-Backs this season where he lasted 11 1/3 innings and gave up four runs. The Rockies have won six of his last eight road starts.
Charlie Blackmon was the NL Player of the Month in June, but on the road this season he is only batting .236 while hitting .460 at home.
Colorado’s pitching has been decent on the road this season with a staff ERA of 3.90 while at home they have an ERA of 6.41.
Ray could use a W
Robbie Ray (5-6 4.10 ERA) goes for Arizona and he could use a win, as the Diamondbacks have lost six of his last seven starts including his last four. In his last outing he gave up four runs on six hits in six innings in a 10-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants. The Diamondbacks have lost four of Ray’s last five starts against Colorado including losing both games this season with him on the hill where he gave up seven runs in 10 2/3 innings. The D-Backs have dropped his last four home starts and eight of his last 11 starts facing a team with a winning record.
Ketel Marte leads the Diamondbacks in batting average and HR and after a hot June he has stayed hot at the dish going four for 10 in his first two games in July. While Arizona has been solid on the road this season, they are a few games under .500 at home.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are:
- 1-4 in their last 5 overall
- 3-10 in their last 13 games vs. a right-handed starter
- 2-6 in their last 8 vs. a team with a winning record
The Colorado Rockies are:
- 5-1 in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record
- 4-11 in their last 15 Saturday games
