Two teams coming off very impressive efforts will try to keep the momentum going when the UL Monroe Warhawks visit Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, North Carolina for a Sun Belt matchup with the Appalachian State Mountaineers. The Warhawks are coming off a solid 10-point win over South Alabama, whereas the Mountaineers upset the then-undefeated Coastal Carolina in a thriller.

Neither of these teams is exactly National Championship material but there are still plenty of reasons to look forward to this game. Right now, the Appalachian State Mountaineers are favored by a whopping 27.5 points, while the game total is set at 58 points for this game.

The Warhawks aim for their first road win

The UL Monroe Warhawks are 4-3 for the season. They lost to Kentucky 45-10, beat Jackson State 12-7, and Troy 29-16 before suffering back-to-back losses to Coastal Carolina (59-6) and Georgia State (55-21). Then, they bounced back with wins over Liberty (31-28) and South Alabama (41-31).

Their last game was their most impressive yet, scoring in all four quarters and nearly doubling their rivals in rushing yards (186 to 89). They were 7/13 in third-down and totaled 555 yards, while their defense was on point with 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery.

Letdown spot for the Mountaineers?

The season has been full of ups and downs for the Appalachian State Mountaineers thus far. They sit on a 5-2 record after beating East Carolina (33-19), Elon (44-10), Marshall (31-30), Georgia State (45-16), and Coastal Carolina (30-27) and losing at Miami (25-23) and at Louisiana (41-13). Even so, they have to feel great about themselves after snapping Coastal Carolina’s winning streak and spoiling their perfect season.

The Mountaineers were able to overcome a 14-0 deficit and get the straight-up win as 4.5-point home underdogs. They had 22 first downs and totaled a whopping 575 yards, limiting Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall to just 15 completions for 291 yards and 1 touchdown in 23 passes. Chase Brice threw for 347 yards and 2 scores in the win.
